Full-back is the position whose job changes most with your tactics. In a back four they have to defend and overlap; in a back three they become wing-backs and play almost like wingers. So when you scout young full-backs in FC 27, potential is only half the story — pace and positional flexibility matter just as much.

Below are the best RB, LB, RWB and LWB players aged 23 or under in the FC 27 squad file, sorted by potential (POT).

Left-backs are everywhere, right-backs are rare

One thing jumps out of that table: 10 of the 15 are natural left-backs and only five are right-backs. If you miss out on a good young LB there are plenty of alternatives; miss out on a good young RB and the pool dries up fast.

• G. Read (Feyenoord, 20) tops the whole list with 88 potential and is the best young RB in the game. At 76 → 88 (+12 growth) for an estimated €22M, he is also the best value on the list. Balanced profile — 79 pace, 75 physical — with the Quick Step PlayStyle.
• Palestra (Chelsea, 21) is built for an attacking wing-back role: 90 pace, 80 dribbling, 81 physical, and a contract running to 2033.
• Alberto Costa (Porto) is the more defensive option, with Intercept and Relentless.
• Martim Fernandes (Porto, 20) plays both RB and LB and has Whipped Pass, so he suits cross-heavy tactics.

• L. Hall (Newcastle) is 83 OVR with 81 passing, 82 dribbling and 80 defending — the most complete full-back here. Whipped Pass, Block and Press Proven.
• N. O'Reilly (Man City) can play LB, CM and CDM and has 81 physical. He is a natural fit for an inverted full-back role that tucks into midfield.
• Balde (Barcelona), N. Brown (Bayern) and Wesley (Roma) all have 90 pace. Brown has the most PlayStyles (four) but only 59 physical. Balde's contract ends in 2028, which helps in negotiations.
