4-2-3-1

4-2-3-1 Balanced

The safest all-round shape: a double pivot locks the back door while a Shadow Striker and two Inside Forwards attack the box. A line height of 60 squeezes midfield space without exposing too much room behind.

Pros
  • Well balanced against almost any opponent
  • Double pivot snuffs out counters early
  • Shadow Striker arrives in the box like a second striker
Cons
  • Width depends on fullback overlaps
  • Attack gets predictable if the lone striker is isolated
  • Centre-backs can be left 1v1 against a front two
Key Player Types
  • CAM with strong off-ball runs and finishing (Shadow Striker)
  • Dribbling inside forwards on their opposite foot (Finesse Shot PlayStyle)
  • Tackling/Intercept holding CDM paired with a passing deep-lying CDM
Player Instructions
  1. Feed the wide attacking mids and let them run diagonally into the box for far-post finesse shots.
  2. Keep the two CDMs screening central lanes instead of pulling them out manually.
  3. If opponents keep playing over the top, drop the line to 50.
  4. When the Shadow Striker bursts forward, the striker drags a centre-back out to open space.
  5. Build up with short passes and save the through ball for the decisive moment.
