4-3-2-1

4-3-2-1 Christmas Tree

Three central midfielders provide a solid base while two forwards behind the striker combine in the half-spaces with one-touch passing. The narrow front three stay close together, making it ideal for short combination play.

Pros
  • A crowded centre forces opponents wide
  • Tight front three makes one-touch combinations easy
  • Three midfielders make transitions quick
Cons
  • Wing play relies entirely on overlapping fullbacks
  • Pushing the line too high invites through balls
  • If the Holding mid is pulled out, a hole opens centrally
Key Player Types
  • Shadow Striker with tight-space dribbling and finesse finishing
  • Playmaker with short passing and vision
  • Two high-stamina Box-to-Box mids
  • A quick left-back who can overlap
Player Instructions
  1. Play short into the midfield three, then advance with one-touch passes through the two forwards behind the striker.
  2. Mix in the left Attacking Wingback's overlaps to stretch a narrow defence.
  3. Around 55 is a good line height; drop to 45 if you keep conceding through balls.
  4. Never drag the Holding mid out - press with the Box-to-Box players instead.
  5. If the opponent sits very narrow, switch play to the empty flank.
